The Caterpillar and the Butterfly poem. (Descriptive poem)

                              Class III

-                                                     This is a poem that tells us about the butterfly’s beauty.

Students were shown some pictures of insects like beetles, bugs, butterfly and grasshoppers and asked them to name these insects. They were also asked to demonstrate the movements of the insects that they have seen. Then they were allowed to discuss the features of caterpillar and butterfly on their own.

Then they were asked to read along with the teacher emphasizing on the new words, using clear pronunciation, proper intonation, rhythm and pace.

Children were projected a video link to the poem on the smart board.             

Students carefully watched the video on the screen and sing along as they watch for second time. At first, they had difficulty as they could not grasp the lyrics.  After repeatedly watching the video, they could sing along actively. Later they were able to sing well without my help. Here I could see great impact on their learning. They were focused and engrossed as they love and prefer to use tablets, phones and other devices to study. It might have taken longer time to sing along with lyrics with done on chart or chalkboard, however smart board gave them programmed visual aids which aroused interest among the learners.

In the 21^st century, static chalkboards and paper-based lessons don’t connect with students. Children now a days learn so much from screen and smart board serves as good as a smart phone. As a teacher, we should not be limited only to chalk and chalkboard but think out of the box to cater 21^st century learners. Smart boards provide students with enriched learning experiences by projecting visual elements. 

When teacher explains and connect ideas and concepts through visual aids, it inspires students to study more effectively as it would inspire their retention power. Moreover, this empowers the teachers and students with the latest smart and virtual teaching method tools that would support interactive, engaging and fun learning classroom atmosphere. This strategy of teaching and learning helps to cater diversity of learners meeting their intelligence.
