Class IV English
Text: Deserts and
Desert life
The successful
integration of ICT into teaching and learning will depend on the teachers’
ability to merge technology appropriately with the pedagogy. Using ICT in
teaching improves engagement and knowledge retention, as students become more
engaged in the work which is more fun and enjoyable. ICT offers students and
teachers many opportunities for creating, connecting and learning.
I taught the
lesson by showing them the pictures on what a desert looks like on the Smart
Board. Then they were also taken through the video on types of people, animals
and plants that live in desert. Students watched the video very carefully
without making any noise as they enjoyed watching the it. So, instead of teacher
simply reading the text and explaining everything about what is desert, it is
more fun for students to watch video and know by themselves. By showing
pictures of desert, students were able to make connection and know what is
desert. I could see students were enjoying and interacting with each other. I
as a teacher did not have to teach to make them understand the lesson but just
had to control the class to make them pay more attention.
As a follow up
activity, I asked them to fill in the table on types of people, animals and
plants found in desert. Students could fill in the table correctly and I was so
happy to see them that they understood everything about desert. Even the weaker
students were able to do it correctly without any mistakes. which proves that
children of 21st century enjoy and better and learn faster using
ICT.
Like everything has advantages and
disadvantages, using ICT in lesson has some disadvantages too. Installing and
operating ICT system is a big challenge, sometimes there is an electricity
failure, sometimes you need to spend a lot of time preparing the lesson.
